Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information Queensland Fish Market collects through its buyer app and website, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
If you only read market prices
Nothing that identifies you. Market prices and auction results are published without an account, and we do not require you to sign in to read them.
If you create an account
- Your name and email address. Provided by you, or by the sign-in provider you choose (Apple, Google or Microsoft). If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive a relay address rather than your real one.
- Your phone number, if you provide one.
- Sign-in records — which provider you used, when you signed in, and the device and network address you signed in from. We keep these because they are the evidence trail behind any disputed action on your account.
If you register a business to buy
- Business details — trading name, legal name, ABN, business address, contact email and phone.
- ABN verification results returned by the Australian Business Register.
- Your acceptance of our trading terms, including which version you accepted and when.
If you use the app
- A push notification token, if you enable notifications. This identifies your device, not you.
- Your trading history with the market — what your business bought, at what weights and prices.
Why we collect it
To operate a wholesale market: to know who is bidding, to decide whether a business may be approved to buy, to invoice correctly, to keep an auditable record of what was sold to whom, and to meet our record-keeping obligations. We also use contact details to send you the things you have asked for — sign-in codes, registration updates and, if you opt in, price notifications.
What we publish
We publish aggregated market prices: species, grade, date, and the low, median and high of what cleared. We never publish who bought or sold anything. Individual buyers and suppliers are not identified in any public price data, on this website, in the app, or in any market report we distribute.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for marketing by anyone else. We share it only:
- with service providers who operate parts of the system on our behalf (hosting, email delivery, push notification delivery, identity providers you choose to sign in with);
- with the Australian Business Register, to verify an ABN you give us;
- where we are required or authorised by law.
Our systems are hosted in Australia. Some service providers, including the sign-in providers and the push notification service, may process data overseas.
How long we keep it
Trading records are financial records and are kept for as long as the law requires, generally at least seven years. Account and contact details are kept while your account is open. Sign-in and audit records are kept so that a past transaction can still be explained.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from within the app, under Account, or by emailing us. When you do, we remove your personal profile and your ability to sign in.
We cannot delete the trading record. What a business bought at auction, at what price, is a financial record of a transaction between two parties, and both the law and the other party's interests require it to survive. What goes is you as an identifiable person; what stays is the transaction.
Security
Access to your account is protected by the sign-in method you choose. We store no passwords. Sign-in tokens are stored on your device's secure hardware keychain, and are held on our side only as one-way hashes, so a copy of our records is not a set of working logins.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can see and correct most of your details in the app. For anything else, or to ask what we hold about you, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period, and will not charge you for making the request.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first and we will investigate. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Where a change is significant, we will tell account holders directly rather than relying on you to notice.
